Pedigree Preamplifiers
PreSonus Audio has won numerous awards for designing the highest quality microphone preamplifiers in the industry at all price levels. The AudioBox USB is loaded with preamps that out perform any USB-based interface hands down. The preamplifiers in the AudioBox deliver high headroom, low noise and high gain giving you pure, full and rich sound.Professional 24-Bit Converters
Most USB recording devices operate at 16-bit sample rate and use converters with dynamic range of less than 90dB. This translates into a pinched and relatively small sound. The AudioBox USB uses professional-grade analog to digital converters with dynamic range of 102dB and 24-bit sample rate so that the digital conversion is big, quiet and musical.USB Bus-Powered
The AudioBox USB is USB bus-powered allowing you to take it anywhere inspiration hits. No wall warts, line lumps or power cables, just plug in to a powered USB port and you are ready to record.Ready to Hit the Road
There's no plastic here. The AudioBox USB is housed in an all-metal chassis with metal knobs ready to withstand the rigors of travel. Toss it in your laptop bag and mobilize your music creation and production. Whether you want to record your shows, mix on the plane or write songs in your hotel room, the AudioBox is ready.Studio One Artist-Plus Gigabytes of Creative Resources

Differences Between the MR816CSX and MR816X
Basically the MR816CSX and MR816X are the same device. The only but not unimportant difference between those two units are the eight DSP-powered channelstrips that the MR816CSX provides. The innovative Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip is a unique compression and EQ tool that runs on DSP inside the MR816CSX.All other features of the both units are the same: Both provide best sound quality and outstanding preamps as well as the same quantity of inputs and outputs. Also MR8168 CSX and MR816X offer one REV-X reverb, a complex reverb algorithm developed by Yamaha which provides a high-density, richly reverberant sound quality, with smooth attenuation, spread and depth that work together to enhance the original sound.
True Integrated Monitoring
Offering real-time, independent and most importantly no-latency mixes with FX for several performers is an engineering challenge in itself, and there are only one or two FireWire I/O interfaces on the market that can achieve this. Even these units are functionally isolated from the DAW software forcing the user to use additional mixing applications, in turn hampering workflow and splintering what should be a truly integrated production system. The answer? Cubase and MR816X. A solution defined by its ease-of-use, flexibility and pure functional elegance. Running with Cubase, MR816X removes any need for additional mixing software between DAW and I/O - all aspects of I/O handling, DSP management and independent performer mixes are handled directly from within Cubase itself. With Cubase 4, these performer mixes are realized using the Studio Sends in the Control Room - a unique system that is completely integrated into the Cubase 4 mixer.
With the unique True Integrated Monitoring technology, Cubase manages all audio streams with perfect sync. No-latency mixes for performers with DSP FX are managed side-by-side with mixes played back through the Cubase audio engine that combine hard disk audio data and live streams being recorded at the same time - all within Cubase. Combined with other unique features, True Integrated Monitoring allows a highly efficient workflow that boosts productivity to new levels. The technological know-how required for this level of integration results directly from the ongoing cooperation between Steinberg software engineers and the hardware experts at Yamaha.
Flexible I/O
MR816X provides all the audio I/O connectivity needed for any audio recording situation:- Eight 'D-Pre' XLR/TRS combo connectors with Class A discrete preamps with +48v and -26dB pad switch per channel
- Eight analog balanced TRS outputs for separate studio performer mixes and a variety of different monitoring setups
- One Hi-Z input for electric guitar or bass
- Optical input and output port for ADAT digital audio streams or S/PDIF optical
- S/PDIF coaxial input and output
- WordClock port
- Two independent headphone outputs with individual level control from the front panel
- Two inserts for integration of additional hardware FX
D-Pre Mic Preamps
The MR816X features the next generation of Yamaha microphone preamps: The 'D-Pre'. Meticulously engineered to the highest standards, these discrete Class A analog mic preamps feature combination XLR and TRS analog inputs for connection of 8 1/4" jack plugs or standard XLR connectors, supporting both balanced and unbalanced signals. Each D-Pre is fitted with a -26dB Pad selector as well as true 48 volt phantom power per channel. An additional phase inversion capability and High Pass filter are available directly from the Cubase mixer or MR Editor software via remote control. What sets these preamps apart? The audio quality of the eight D-Pres can only be described as stunning. Each utilizes an advanced Inverted Darlington circuit design and electronics components specifically designed for the MR816CSX and MR816X. The result is a sumptuously smooth and richly detailed sound normally only attained by preamps costing many times more; the outstanding sound of these mic pres obviate the need for all but the rarest vintage preamps.
Just as important as the preamps are, of course, the converters behind them. The MR816X includes first-rate A/D and D/A converters that offer absolutely crystal-clear sound that portrays the sound with astonishing precision and clarity.
Each D-Pre is paired with a useful signal/peak lamp that lights up green when a signal between -40dB and -3dB is connected, warning with a red light if levels reach -3dB. Unlike many other preamps, the red warning light alerts the engineer not just when it's already "too late" and a signal has already clipped the converter behind it, but indicates that gain levels should be checked and monitored closely.
DSP Power for Cubase
On top of its excellent I/O capability, the MR816X features an onboard DSP chip that runs renowned REV-X reverb, which is also featured on many top Yamaha hardware mixing consoles. Each independent monitor mix can utilize the DSP capability to add an excellent reverb that every performer will feel extremely comfortable performing to. Optionally, the FX can be included in the signal recorded to the input track. The signal can, of course, also be recorded dry with no FX or bypassed completely.
The Advanced Integration of MR816X in Cubase goes even further. The REV-X reverb is also available as VST3 plug-in in Cubase when mixing! This adds additional first-class FX capability that is available even when the computer's CPU is running under a high load.
For Cubase owners, MR816X combines not only outstanding I/O capability, extremely easy handling and no-latency monitor mixing, but also a powerful DSP capability - a peerless combination with an almost unbeatable price/performance ratio.
REV-X Reverb
The REV-X built into the MR816X is a complex reverb algorithm developed by Yamaha. It provides a high-density, richly reverberant sound quality, with smooth attenuation, spread and depth that work together to enhance the original sound. Yamaha's REV-X digital reverb algorithm is renowned for its high resolution and extraordinarily natural sound. The MR816X features three types of reverb effects: Hall, Room and Plate simulations with reverb time and level control. Reverb Time and Level can be controlled either through Cubase or from the front panel of the MR 816 X. This superlative reverb processor also featured on Yamaha's premiere digital consoles is ideal for monitoring mixes for performers, but also adds a further excellent reverb to your available VST plug-ins on mixdown.
Complete Cubase user interface integration throughout
MR816X features direct integration into Cubase through unique windows and views within Cubase that appear only when they are connected. These interface element allow full control of the hardware's functionality from within Cubase itself. This includes not only the REV-X reverb DSP effect, but almost all hardware functionality in the MR816X including performer mixes and their levels, phantom power selection, -26dB pad, High Pass filters and phase inversion switch per input channel.
The benefits are an extremely fast and intuitive workflow that handles software and hardware effectively as one system! Attention is focused on Cubase at all times without creative flow being broken off by having to open or edit in other applications. And because the features are all embedded in the Cubase graphic environment, they're very intuitive to use for anyone who is already used to Cubase - no need to adjust to another graphic environment to adjust levels for performer mix, for example. This is only one of the many Advanced Integration features between MR816X and Cubase, which effectively meld hardware and software together into perhaps the most sophisticated production system available today.
Quick Connect
As soon as the drivers are installed, Cubase automatically recognizes when the MR816X is connected, featuring complete plug and play and very fast setup. MR816X offers another stunningly unique feature: instant routing and rerouting of inputs to Cubase channels on the fly from the front panel of the I/O with the push of a single button! Just select a Cubase channel, and press a channel button on the I/O front panel, and that channel is instantly routed to the selected track. To help quickly identify which input is routed to the selected Cubase track, the front panel light for the channel flashes, showing which input is currently routed to that track.Setting up a project with MR816X is extremely easy and intuitive. Templates offer pre-made setups with routing and I/O configurations already set up, automatically creating and assigning inputs and outputs for connected devices. Additionally, if no input busses have yet been created within the project, selecting a Cubase track and pushing the button of the desired channel on the front panel not only routes that input to that track, but automatically creates either a mono or stereo bus as desired.
The bottom line? No need to manually create busses or reassign I/Os in the VST Connections window, with obvious benefits for project workflow. No other combination of FireWire hardware and software offers such flexible and intuitive I/O handling within a software DAW. As one of the unique Advanced Integration features, Quick Connect helps MR816X integrate completely into Cubase to form a next-generation software and hardware system that discards traditional boundaries between these two previously separate worlds.
Extendable System
Developed using advanced technologies to offer seamless scalability, this mixing and recording system offers many options to increase the number of available inputs, preamps, outputs and DSP capability - all on the same FireWire port. Up to three MR816Xs can be used simultaneously by connecting them in daisy-chain fashion to a computer via IEEE1394 cables. The number of available channels for input and output across the system can be easily expanded simply by adding up to two more MR816X. MR816X supports up to 48 input and output channels - using only one FireWire port on the computer. All connected I/Os are recognized by Cubase simultaneously, with no additional setup required. Cubase also automatically assigns the correct I/O port configuration for one, two or three units, depending on how many are connected. Even when multiple MR816Xs are connected, parameters such as those for digital audio input/output and REV-X are available for each device individually.
The available DSP power of the entire system is also scalable with the addition of more units, as each DSP is available to Cubase in the form of VST3 plug-ins during mixdown. A system composed of three MR816X offers not only 48 inputs and outputs, but also three instances of high-quality REV-X reverb.
Because of the highly flexible driver architecture, both MR816CSX and MR816X models are fully compatible with each other and run daisy-chained together on the same system, allowing full flexibility in creating a customized system that offers the needed number of inputs, outputs and DSP capability.

PreSonus FireStudio Project FireWire Interface
Begin recording like a pro with the PreSonus FireStudio interface,
which includes a free ProPak software suite for one affordable price.
Some musicians prefer to work alone, spending untold hours in their
bedrooms crafting little masterpieces of esoteric pop weirdness. The
rest, however, play in bands. If you want to start recording real people
playing real music together, you're going to need more than the two
inputs most affordable digital audio interfaces provide. It's time to
step up to the PreSonus FireStudio Project, a FireWire interface with
ten simultaneous audio inputs and all the routing options you'll need to
start making serious recordings. It delivers professional fidelity,
reliable stability with Mac or Windows systems, and ships with a full
suite of recording software and effects including the Studio One Artist 2
multitrack recoding program.
Eight Class-A Preamps, and More
Because PreSonus wanted to make the FireStudio Project a self-contained multitracking solution, they outfitted it with eight of their pristine XMAX Preamps. These class-A pre's have a low noise floor and high enough headroom to accommodate a wide variety of recording sources. All eight microphone inputs can supply true +48V phantom power for your condenser mics -- a must for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, and drum overheads. Best of all, the input connectors are XLR-1/4" "combi" jacks, meaning you can connect instruments or 3-pin microphone cables to the same input without having to reach around to the back of the unit--and inputs 1 and 2 are especially built to accept Hi-Z signals from electric guitars and basses. Add to the eight analog inputs two digital S/PIDF inputs, and you've got yourself a setup that can easily be expanded to include additional digital mic preamps. There's also eight analog and two digital outputs for flexible monitor routing, and full MIDI I/O to incorporate drum machines, hardware synth modules, and more. Should you want to increase your available inputs further, the PreSonus FireWire driver supports multiple, daisy-chained interfaces. Simply connect a second FireStudio for twenty inputs, and a third for thirty, and a fourth -- as many as your computer software and hardware can keep up with!Zero Latency Monitoring And Improved Jitter Elimination
The importance of zero-latency monitoring can't be understated. Even with ten simultaneous recording inputs, you're going to want to make overdubs, and having access to zero-latency monitoring without relying on exterior routing is the most reliable way to get perfectly synchronized overdubs and punch-ins. The PreSonus FireStudio touts zero-latency mixing via its intuitive software-controlled, digital mix routing. Another problem inherent in digital recording systems is jitter. Jitter occurs when the converters that transform analog audio information into digital information don't sync properly. Think about analog-to-digital conversion like a camera taking a picture of the incoming audio. When recording at 44.1kHz (or CD-quality) that's 44,100 pictures every second--or 352,800 when recording on eight simultaneous inputs. If those virtual cameras don't capture their images at the same instant, issues like phasing, loss of low-end focus, and digital hiss can become audible. The FireStudio employs JetPLL jitter elimination technology and upgraded converters to combat these common issues, making sure the audio you record is as accurate and musical as possible.LED Meters For Instant Level Monitoring
You ever see those huge studio consoles with their fancy LED meter bridges? Wouldn't it be nice to have one of those to give you instant input level feedback in your home setup? Quit pining: the FireStudio Project has three-segment input monitoring built right into its front panel, giving you immediate monitoring over all eight analog inputs. No more relying on your software to tell you if your preamps are clipping, let the preamps themselves tell you.Compatible With Most Major DAWs
If you've already got a digital audio workstation you're comfortable with, chances are the FireStudio Project will integrate seamlessly with your setup. Its near-universal Mac and Windows drivers mean the FireStudio works as the perfect front end for users of Apple Logic, Cakewalk Sonar, and even Propellerhead Record. On the other hand, if you're really starting from scratch, PreSonus stuffs the FireStudio box with a copy of Studio One Artist 2, so you can get down to recording right away. Best of all, PreSonus is one of the most diligent and frequent updaters of driver software in the industry, so you can invest in your FireStudio Project with absolute confidence.
Computer System Requirements
New Universal Control version 1.11 software. Compatible with 64-bit Windows XP and Vista and will support 64-bit operation in Mac OS X 10.5 and later.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB Audio Interface
Keep an eye on your levels
Unique halo signal indicators let you know that you've got a good signal level for recording. Red means that your signal is clipping, and that you should reduce the gain. The halo will momentarily turn amber as the level returns to a healthy level, at which point it will turn green.
Flexible monitoring options
A large monitor dial provides a tactile control for the volume of your speakers, whilst a high quality headphone amp provides a clean yet loud signal to headphones connected to the front panel socket. The direct monitor switch routes audio directly from the inputs to both the headphone and speaker outputs. This allows you to monitor the incoming signal with zero-latency.
Polish your mix
The included Scarlett Plug-In suite provides effects compatible with all major DAWs; so whether you're using GarageBand, Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic or the included Ableton Live Lite, Scarlett 2i2 is the complete package for you to get recording straight away.
High Quality Mic Preamps
Scarlett 2i2 features two high quality award-winning Focusrite mic pres. With more than 25 years of experience in designing analogue equipment, Focusrite produce the best mic preamps in the industry. The preamps found in the Scarlett 2i2 are no exception to this, and share the same design as those found in the flagship interfaces: Saffire PRO 40 and Liquid Saffire 56.
Excellent Digital Performance
With 24-bit resolution at sample rates of up to 96 KHz, the digital conversion in the Scarlett 2i2 is of very high quality meaning that every note and every subtle detail is captured with great clarity.
Rugged Metal Unibody Case
The anodized aluminum unibody chassis ensures that your Scarlett 2i2 can withstand the harsh environment of the road. It also makes Scarlett 2i2 the most beautiful interface around ...
Truly Portable Interface
Scarlett 2i2 is very light and compact making it easy to fit in a laptop bag. It's also bus powered meaning that you don't need an additional power supply. Simply plug in to your computer and hit record!
Included Software - DAW and Effects
Inside the box you'll find Ableton Live Lite 8, as well as Focusrite's Scarlett plug-in suite. Compatible with all major DAWs, Scarlett plug-in suite provides EQ, Compression, Gate and Reverb - essential tools for polishing your mix.
Unique LED Gain Halos
The gain halos which surround the gain knob for each input provides an easy way to know that the signal you're recording is the right level. It will show green when the signal is at a good level (above -24dBFS). If it turns to red, you know that the signal is too loud and is therefore clipping - if this happens, simply reduce the gain until the halo returns to green.
Direct Monitor Function
Flick the direct monitor switch on the front panel of your 2i2 and you will hear what you're recording through your speakers or headphones, without the signal having to go through your computer. This avoids the possibility of latency, which can be distracting when recording.
Mac OSX Lion Ready
Scarlett 2i2 has been fully tested with Mac OSX 10.7, Lion. So you can rest assured that your Mac and Scarlett 2i2 will run together perfectly!
Features
- 2 in / 2 out USB audio interface

Whatever the scale of your project, Scarlett 18i8 is up for the challenge.
The Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 is an 18 in/8 out USB 2.0 audio interface and part of the new generation of Focusrite audio interfaces, designed to make music creation easier and sound better than ever before. Featuring four award-winning Focusrite mic pre amps alongside a flexible array of other input and output options, the Scarlett 18i8 is the perfect match for the discerning producer or small recording band, allowing up to four mic inputs and four line inputs to be recorded simultaneously. And with the option of ADAT, a unit such as an OctoPre MkII can be connected, bringing the number of mic pres up to 12.
USB 2.0 audio interface with four Focusrite mic pres
The new Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 18-in/8-out interface extends the Scarlett range of USB 2.0 interfaces from Focusrite, each of which offers a series of high-quality inputs and outputs for different recording requirements. With four Focusrite mic pres, Scarlett 18i8 is designed for producers and recording artists or bands who require the ability to record a significant number of sources at the same time including multiple mics/instruments, with expansion capability enabling it to handle multiple studio recording requirements. Scarlett 18i8 works on Mac, PC and iPad (Apple Camera Connection Kit required for iPad).
Focusrite was commissioned to make its first no-holds-barred microphone preamps by Sir George Martin for his Air Studio facility in London. Over the following 25 years Focusrite has designed some of the finest mic preamps in the music industry, and in recent years has developed a series of best-selling audio interfaces for people who really care about sound.
18 separate inputs
At the heart of 18i8 is a set of four Focusrite mic preamps with up to 60dB gain, designed specifically for Focusrite's computer audio interfaces. The first two offer Mic/Line/Instrument on universal XLR/TRS connectors while 3 and 4 offer Mic/Line capability on universal XLRs - all four on the front panel with pads and 48V phantom power. Four more line inputs are provided on TRS connectors. An ADAT optical digital connector provides eight additional digital inputs that can also be used with external mic preamps like Focusrite's OctoPre Mk II to increase the number of mic inputs the 18i8 can handle to 12. A stereo S/PDIF coaxial input is also included.
8 independent outputs
On the output side, there are two TRS monitor outputs, stereo S/PDIF coax, and two independent stereo headphone outputs, each with their own volume knob so artist and engineer can control their own personal monitoring. All analogue inputs and outputs have their own connectors, so no breakout cables are required, and all feature Focusrite precision 24-bit, 96kHz sampling A/D and D/A conversion to get the most accurate signal possible into and out of recording applications on Windows, Mac and now iOS apps.
Tough and innovative hardware
Scarlett 18i8 is housed in a compact red unibody metal case to withstand the rigours of the road -- and the studio. Input level controls feature signal halos LED rings around the level control that give a simple and immediate go/no-go level indication: green means there is a recordable signal while red indicates overload. A large main monitor knob with mute button means that main monitor levels are always at your fingertips.
Included software
Included in the package is the Scarlett MixControl low-latency DSP-based software mixer and router, with intuitive one-click presets and a latency of under 1.4 ms. RME HDSPe PCI-Card PCI Express Card Audio Interface
RME's HDSPe PCI Card is not based on a PCI to PCI Express bridge, which
would simply add PCIe to existing PCI technology. It is a newly
developed genuine PCI Express solution, which consequently takes full
advantage of the new format, achieving significant performance gains in
multitrack audio. RME's flash update technology ensures future firmware
improvements, adjustments, and bugfixes to be installed easily at any
time.
The PCI Express interface of the HDSPe system is based on the PCI Express Base Specification v 1.1. It represents a 1-Lane PCI Express Endpoint Device and supports 2.5 Gbps line speed. Thanks to the packet-based full duplex communication, the card provides a transfer rate of up to 500 MB/s - 250 MB/s in each direction.
The connection between PCI Express card and I/O box is established using ordinary FireWire cable (IEEE 1394, 6-pin). The data transfer does not use FireWire protocol, but RME's own proprietary bus protocol. The supplied cable is 4 m (12 ft.) long. The PCIe card operates as power supply for the attached I/O-box (Digiface, Multiface, Multiface II, RPM) over the FireWire cable.
In the year 2001 RME started a revolution in mobile audio recording: the HDSP System, consisting of a PCI or CardBus card plus an external I/O-box has been the world's first audio system, operating at both desktop and laptop. And the world's first professional multitrack system for notebooks at all.
Today we are proud to look back and conclude: the HDSP system has become a true 'industry standard'. Thanks to continuing firmware and driver updates it stayed a cutting-edge product, still offers un-beaten performance, and still enjoys great popularity among the users.
The PCI Express card uses RME's own audio bus, already known from the PCI version, operating in combination with Multiface II, Multiface, Digiface and the RPM DJ interface. RME is especially proud on the fact that all users of RME interfaces can easily expand their system so that it operates with the latest and fastest PCI Express computers and Windows Vista, not loosing all the money formerly invested in audio hardware. As additional option the HDSPe PCI card can be used directly with RME's Time Code Option Module, offering an SMPTE controlled operation.
